Microsoft Windows servers are the preferred platforms for hosting ASP or C# websites that interact with Microsoft Access or Microsoft SQL Server databases. They are also used for business applications developed specifically for this platform. The major disadvantage of this platform is the initial cost of Microsoft licences, which reduces its use cases. Even so, IIS has a market share of around 35% (source: Netcraft, January 2015).
